Creature from the Black Khlong

This is a monitor lizard eating a frog in the middle of a khlong in Bangkok, not far from the Temple Mount. Hard to believe anything actually lives in that black, foul, smelly water -but apparently things do. I wonder what other strange creatures live in there? In the video we weren’t sure what it was we were looking at, as the creature was quite far away. After zooming in with my camera and then uploading it to my computer, it became apparent what it was.
