Gold and Silver Catalysts
How good a job do gold and silver do to catalyze hydrogen peroxide?
Silver has been used for years as a catalyst in jet packs and peroxide rockets to catalyze (decompose) hydrogen peroxide. When the peroxide passes through a silver screen it breaks down into hot (600 C) steam and oxygen gas, producing thrust. Silver, platinum, and other precious metals can be used as catalysts, but what about gold? This video explores that question.
